The idea for HISASHI came from the eaves of buildings. This work expresses precisely the concept I call "supplement," which I have been mulling over ever since I began my artistic activities in earnest.

"Supplement" involves the notion that the whole can be discovered through a part. There are spaces in the natural world that are like the space under the eaves of a house; the shades of rocks and trees provide for living thing places of rest and shelter from the sun, the rain and wind. Unlike eaves, HISASHI takes an organic form because I wanted to suggest, through the incorporation of such spaces that living things inhabit, the whole in which both the man-made and the natural are both subsumed.

The "moon" room highlights the concept of HISASHI, which is "to supplement." This "Garden of Supplement" which accommodates HISASHI and a bench is a crescent-shaped sheath of space.
